RIPARIAN EDUCATION CENTER
The objective for this project was to transform an under-utilized riverfront park into a destination for education and understanding of the river's ecology particularly in an urban setting. Our studio conducted a very thorough site analysis using a variety of mediums to understand the user groups, access points, climatic conditions, and current uses of the park.
Meandering through the education center, users learn about the riparian zone's critical role in the filtration of water and maintaining a healthy river bed.
The education center is intended to take users through the process of water filtration by a riparian zone. A gentle flowing stream meanders through the building guiding users through the procession.
URBAN DESIGN STUDIO ISTANBUL - EYE OF USKUDAR
The final project of my study abroad program in Istanbul was to create a transit hub to support the new train traveling under the Bosphorous from the Europe side of Istanbul to the Asia side. The transit hub is intended to become a cultural epicenter accommodating several open-air bazaars and a variety of mixed-use spaces.
The main design challenge for this project was to bridge the historic, disorderly street grid with a more contemporary, simple scheme while maintaining the rich economic and cultural diversity. My concept celebrated the juxtaposition of old and new by breaking the old organic street grids with modern linear strips.
